Benefits of Coaching

As a head coach, not only are you allowing more children to play, you also get to:
  • Choose the day and location of practice
  • Choose the uniform color/style
  • Choose your assistant coach (who may be the parent/guardian of your child's best friend) (only available in 10U division and younger)
  • Choose the (final) name of the team
  • Coach more than one team and your games will be scheduled so there are no conflicts
No experience is necessary and all training is provided. Learn what others find to be such a rewarding experience.

Become a Team Parent

The AYSO Team Parent is a pivotal part of every team. They are the coach's assistant, cheerleader and traffic director all in one. These are things you will already be doing if your child is on the team, so take it one more step and help the entire team operate more smoothly!

Every coach needs help arranging snacks for after games, making calls when rain makes practice impractical, and keeping an energetic team in line on the sidelines. You're making a difference for the whole team - a team that includes your child. It's a great way to make your child's team a family experience!

Another important role a Team Parent can play is the unofficial Kids Zone representative at every game. Kids Zone is one of the ways AYSO makes sure all its players and volunteers are having fun. The program encourages spectators to use good language, show good sportsmanship in attitude and behavior, and create an enjoyable day for every player. The Kids Zone button, parent pledge form and sign, remind those on the sidelines to act appropriately.  A Team Parent can wear and share these important tools with everybody watching the game.

Become a Referee

We need you. We can't have games without referees. More importantly, it's rewarding and working with kids is great fun!

The referee's job is to be the official in charge of the game. The referee is the independent arbiter and manager of the game. Their authority extends to everyone at the field, including players, substitutes, team officials, spectators, and even assistant referees.

The referee's No. 1 one concern is to keep the game as safe as possible for the players. While there is risk in all sports, the referee is responsible for minimizing such risks from field conditions, equipment, spectators, and the players.

The referee is responsible for enforcing the Laws of the Game in such a way as to keep the game safe, fair and fun for everyone: the players, the coaches, the spectators and themselves. The referee interferes with the game as little as possible, avoiding making calls for doubtful and trifling offenses. Referees only make calls for offenses they are sure occurred.

We want our kids to continue to play, and they keep playing as long as it is fun. Referees learn that fun soccer varies from age group to age group of players.
